Argentina Stamp Papers 1892 - 1983

Paper has a top side and a down side with the top side referred to as felt side and the down side as wire side ! The felt side usually has a much smoothier surface whereas the wire side has a much rougher surface with plenty of grooves where the fibers had fallen out.

According to the theory for printers in the polygrapghical branch, the felt side should be used for printing to get a better result!

In the practice of stamp printing one can notice a very frequent use of the wire side of stamp paper for printing though!

Contrary to the Argentine philatelic tradition of referring to a transposed watermark - filigrana traspuesta - I would use the terms papel normal when the felt side was used for printing and papel traspuesto when the wire side was used for printing ....
